Memorial Day Weekend

Friday evening began with flag placement at Pioneer Cemetery.  It is a major hunting experience as the map was created on a real typewriter ~~ that tells you how old it is.  Lots of clues are needed to get it half correct.  We did our best.  This is just an interesting piece.

Sunday, we set out on a 11 mile backpack up Mt. Defiance in the Columbia Gorge.  At about 3,000 feet, one of our members hurt his ankle and couldn’t put any weight on it.  I found myself asking the few others on the trail if they had any hard core drugs:  vicodin (sp), etc.  No one did, so we gave him 800 mg Advil; divided his pack among the remaining six of us and headed down with the men helping him.  We will shoot for the summit again on a day hike in June.  It was a good learning lesson for us all.

The switchbacks were very tough.  I am standing one below our injured hiker.
