Our quilt guild had its brown bag raffle last night. The room was packed with fun and fabulous items. I scored a new Easy Angle ruler, some great fabric, someone’s quilt blocks that can be put into lovely quilts and books. The best was a Singer 301a sewing machine in a case. As soon as I got it home, I tried it out and it sews a beautiful stitch. It is lightweight, has a handle for carrying and the nicest case.

Work continued on my Valentine projects. The Buggy Barn pattern is easy to understand and very fun.

Seeing Pink Here

Pulling out as many of my pinks and reds as I could find, Valentine projects are in the works. Tonya Ricucci’s ”Word Play Quilts” has been fun. Hopefully, the heart pattern from Buggy Barn will arrive soon.

Zig Zag Finish

I had enough fabric from my sister’s 40th birthday quilt that I zipped up this 70″ x 80″ zig zag quilt. The tutorial can be found at www.beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com .

My friend’s aunts started this a long, long time ago and together, we found enough fabric to complete the borders. It’s quilted and today we’ll find a binding. Tonight, both of us will be at the homeless shelter overnight so we’ll hand stitch the binding on our 2 hour watch times.

The mud on my son’s shoes should be washed away by the time he returns from a run as it’s pouring out.

… and there will be NO cookies remaining for him when he returns because I ate the rest. My neighbor gave me a beautiful filled bowl for my birthday.

Borders and Hazelnut Wood

I finished putting the outer borders on two twin quilts that were begun many years ago by my mother and sister.

Then a friend brought over hazelnut wood they cut from their farm for my brother in Kentucky. My brother asked that I put wax over the cut parts so the wood doesn’t dry out fast and crack. Hope I did it correctly. My Postmaster sister wants a picture when I mail it from our PO.

We counted nine beautiful wooden items that my brother has made in our home. Here is my latest catch! Isn’t it wonderful?!!

Joining the Made in Cherry Quilt Along

From the moment, I saw Sarah Fielke’s quilt (www.thelastpiece.typepad.com), I knew it was one that I had to make. Now is my chance. Using fabric from my stash, this is what has been cut for my 60″ quilt. See my sidebar for information if you want to join along.

I don’t know how to join a flicker group and my husband has to add stuff to my blog. Perhaps he’ll figure this out for me too.

Little Flower’s Processional Banner

The Little Flower group at St. Matthew asked me to quilt and bind a banner they created. The youngest girls are in kindergarten. In metallic ink, they put the various names of God on the cross; virtues in the flowers and saints in the clouds. It came out quite sweet. Tomorrow they present it to the church and can begin using it at Thursday’s school Mass.

Kings Mountain

Our last trek with our USMC son on this trip was up Kings Mountain this morning (2500′ in 2.5 miles). We got up in less than 1.5 hours and down in less time.

Friday, our two oldest and our son-in-law went snowboarding at Timberline.

How lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place!

Our Three Cowboys

Back in 1968, my mother made pajamas for each of my three brothers. They are wearing them in this picture. Yes, those guns look real, and they made a clicking noise.

My mother gave my youngest sister the scraps a few years ago and she cut them into 3.5″ blocks. That is what I had to work with in creating three quilts for our three imaginative brothers. Here are some of the blocks.

The three quilts are each about 60″ square.

Below is the label my husband worked an entire day in creating. My sister Donna has a gun on the left and I am on the right. The baby sister seems to be missing from the picture and two sisters followed a few years later for a total of eight of us kids.

Today, at our family gathering in Baltimore, two brothers received their quilts. The other, in Kentucky opened his via Skype and my cell phone here in Oregon.
