This is a quilt my brother had his eye on in American Patchwork and Quilting http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/projects-ideas/decorating/hooray-red-white-blue_ss8.html and I finished it for him.  The label is ready and just needs to be sewn on.  I used the “Star Swirl” panto with a variegated King Tut blue thread.

Here is a little ditty I made for my mom.  I was careful to use special selvage words like “beautiful”, “Joanne”, “A mother’s wish” along with other fun ones.  Her trademark is a snail, so I know she’ll like this.  http://www.selvageblog.blogspot.com/ gets credit for her great website and book!

Trillium Lake

January 18, 2009

Another great hike on a glorious day…  this time Trillium Lake.  We did a side trail where we didn’t see even one person.  The lake was a different scene ~~ there were about 50 – 60 people around the lake for lunch.

Here is a quilt top I made with Karen Griska’s pattern (http://selvageblog.blogspot.com).  It is called The Red Zinger and can be found on her blog.   Her book, ” The Selvage Edge Quilt” is fabulous!  I am heading to the basement to quilt it soon!

Below is an incredible find for this project.   Years ago, my sisters visited one of my mom’s favorite places,
Hearthside Quilts (http://www.nvo.com/hearthside) in Vermont.  They purchased a ton of scraps.  I did make a Log Cabin out of the some pieces, but most of were on the selvage and that doesn’t necessarily work very well, so they were crammed into a box and stored until I remembered that there may be selvages in the box.  Voila!  These are from just one of the boxes.

Today is my 49th birthday and my daughter came over and went to Mass with us.  It was so nice to have her with us for the morning.  My son (US Marine) sent a lovely bouquet of flowers, and my husband gave me a pattern and gift certificate for fabric along with some backpacking goodies.

Lower Twin Lakes Snow Backpack

January 4, 2009

Here are some pictures from a great weekend backpacking from Frog Lake snowpark to Lower Twin Lakes to Barlow Park trailhead at the base of  Mt. Hood.  There were six adults and eight Scouts on this trip.

Here is my son in front of our tent this morning.  The adult kitchen area is below the tarp in the back.

Many of the boys are staying at the Scout’s Winter Lodge to go snow tubing.  They return home tomorrow afternoon!
