Merry Christmas

December 25, 2008

I finished the three quilts for gifts.  The first is for my walking partner.  It uses African fabrics that were left over from my sister’s Girl Scout project.  I used a ton of batting (sometimes three layers) to make it extra warm.

The second is for a couple that we meet with every Sunday to go over the Gospel.  Again, it is all left over fabrics and some Moda red that my mom gave me a while back.

The last one is for my daughter and son-in-law.  It’s all flannel so they can cuddle under it.

My 4 year old daycare girl and I volunteered at the homeless shelter today and here are a few pictures of her on the walk home…

Look what we saw on the way…  Way cool!

Of course, a snow angel has to be made!

I don’t typically put pictures of my daycare kiddies on this, but this picture is so sweet of her.

Selvage Edge Zippered Bags and More

December 18, 2008

I have been sewing up a storm. There are a bazillion chunky potholders, pillow cases, a quilt and the best are the small zippered purses made with selvage edges of fabrics ( Karen Griska’s, “Quilts from the Selvage Edge” http://www.selvagequilts.com ).  Her book is fabulous!  I used the tutorial found on http://www.twelve22.org:80/2006/07/zipper_tutorial.html for the purses.gifts-2008
I have also been taking care of my nephew’s first grade project, Frog. Frog went shopping with us yesterday and we captured him on a nearby bush filled with snow and an ornament of the same color.

Thank you MyOliveBranch

December 15, 2008

The trip to the East Coast was fabulous.  There were 37 of us gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving, my parent’s 50th Anniversary and St. Nicholas Day.  Only one nephew was absent.  For the St. Nicholas gift exchange, I put in this little quilt.  The fabric was a gift from my www.MQResource.com secret quilter sister, http://myolivebranch.wordpress.com/.  Thank you Kay!  I had a great time working with it and have used all the fabric you gifted me.  However, I gave away all the quilts.  There are some scraps that I use in my scrap quilts and they make me smile.

I have been sewing and quilting non stop since my return.  Tomorrow is a snow day here, so no school and maybe only one daycare girl.  Lots of time to finish more gifts!
