Heart Strings Quilt

May 30, 2008

I finished the quilting this morning on this wedding quilt for a family friend’s son.  It is from the http://heartstringsquiltproject.com/ website.

We have an absolutely glorious day here in Oregon!  Have a great weekend to everyone.

Quilted Stole for Priest

May 29, 2008

I made a stole years ago for a priest at the request of an incredibly talented artist and iconographer.  She showed me a design from a very old book.  Since then, I have seen this pattern in two different books (Weeks Riggle and Kaffee Fassett ~~ may have first name mixed up).

Anyway, a friend wanted to make one for a family friend in Italy and decided that since she had enough fabric for two, she’d make one for our priest who is leaving in June.  Well, she cut and placed all the fabrics and I moved them to another gridded fusible, sewed the pieces up and then quilted and sewed it up this morning.  My part is finished!  Now onto the wedding quilt I need to have finished for Saturday.

Quilt for an Hour ~~ Day 7

May 27, 2008

I am up to date on the Quilt for an Hour from http://www.patchworktimes.com/ and it is looking great!  I do wish my background fabrics had more contrast.

This morning, I put the label on my dad’s birthday gift.  My mother’s moto is a “snail”, so since I have wanted to do a large Snail’s Trail quilt and she will be seeing it daily, I decided on this pattern.  The quilt is twin size and will look great against their brick wall.  The best part is that it fit in a USPS flat rate box with just a little bit of squeezing and shoving!  The other good part is that the only fabric I purchased for it was five fat quarters, the back and binding!

26 Years of Running

May 25, 2008

Today marks my 26th year of running.  My first run was a few blocks in Orlando, FL before I was out of breath.  Throughout the years my accomplishments have been:  running through three pregnancies (including many races pushing a jogger stroller while pregnant), San Francisco Marathon in 1984, several Hood to Coast relays, competetition on the Pacific Telesis corporate team, finding partners to run with, several graceful falls to the pavement, pushing the jogger through 10″ of fresh snow in Yosemite, many big hill climbs in the SF Bay Area, meeting my husband while running with the Diablo Road Runners, running to the top of Mt. Diablo (3800 ft. in 13 miles) on New Years Day, running after a night of drinking (where I couldn’t turn my head without it throbbing) and winning the woman’s division of the Concord Disposal Run and many other great feats!  Running has helped keep me in shape for all the outdoor activities I do!

Today, was another day at Hagg Lake working on my son’s Eagle Project.  More sanding and painting.  Tomorrow, my son and husband will go back and finish painting.  Hopefully it will dry better than today.

I have several quilting projects that need to be finished by mid week, so, off I go to the Gammill…

Have a safe Memorial Day Weekend!  Ours began with flag placement at the Pioneer Cemetery Friday.

Quilt for an Hour ~~ Day Four

May 23, 2008

It feels like it has taken all day to complete these, but they are finished for http://www.patchworktimes.com/ Quilt for an Hour.  Hopefully tomorrow will be the same because I did two extras.  While working on these, I was also sewing my “Happy Hour” pieces together and have a few long rows remaining.

Today was the pre-school (my daycare children) program for the end of the year.  Here is the 3 year old looking for something in her bag.  Everyone else had their sticks already and she was the only one in a princess costume.  She was happy though!

Quilt for an Hour ~~ Day Two

Day Two of Quilt for an Hour project with http://www.patchworktimes.com/ is completed.

And here is the progress on the new roof…

Quilt for an Hour and more

May 20, 2008

Yesterday  was more of the Eagle Project.  Out of 20 planks, 16 are primed and four remain to be filled in and re-sanded.

Today, I loaded 2800 lbs of food by myself into my van.  It will be distributed at a Migrant Camp that we visit each spring/summer.  This will be our 13th season.  Luckily, the school kids helped unload.

As for the Quilt for an Hour, I am on target for the most part.  I have completed today’s step of sewing the half square triangles.  I also purchased some fabric that I think will work with what I had.

Cape Lookout Hike

Here are a few pictures from our hike with the Boy Scouts today in Tillamook, OR.  It was a glorious day!

Fabric Postcards: Recycle

May 16, 2008

My postcards for the www.MQResource.com are in the mail.  The theme is RECYCLE and I used the fruit and vegetable stickers that have been accumulating on my cabinets over the past few months on half of the card and May flowers on the other half using the Mended Hearts way of creating a fast and fun project.  (http://infohost.nmt.edu/~breynold/quilts/mendhart.html).  There is a grommet on the top of the card if anyone wants to hang it!  Of course, I wish I had added fun stuff on the sticker side, but, oh well…

Happy Birthday to my Postmaster sister today!!!  I hope your card arrives today!

Here are some lilacs in my dining room.
