Eagle Project Phase 2

April 28, 2008

Phase Two of my son’s Boy Scout Eagle Project was Saturday.  Nine of us spent five hours sanding planks for the picnic tables.  These are the planks we pulled early January.  On a glorious day, we got 17 out of 20 sanded.  Next step is filling the cracks and grafitti, removing the 6 foot posts and replacing them, and painting the tables.

Below is my son with the sanded planks (some have been filled, but need additional sanding) and a good friend of my older son.

In other news, the fish quilt sold at the school auction for $2400.  WOW !!!

My day job

April 22, 2008

Today’s daycare day:  I haven’t watched this 13 mo. old in a while and wasn’t sure if he still took morning naps and thought I’d see if he could wait until after lunch.   Hmmm…

Marine Quilt on a stormy day

April 20, 2008

My son, the Marine, who never really wanted a quilt has been hinting for one.  Since I already had Marine Corps fabric and had started it a while back, it was easy to finish.  What I understand is that he will sleep on top of his rack (bed) and each morning only have to tidy it up, fold up the quilt and store it in his locker.  I do have to add that this is not his first quilt.  It is 68″ x 106″.  I used the red fabric with Heat n Bond to adhere his name to the top.  It is zig zagged and quilted over so it should be clear that it is his quilt.  The back is scrapped with the digital camouflage, other fabrics and one of his tee shirts he wore in high school.

Yesterday, I went skiing and it was the best day on Mt. Hood.  It snowed all day, but the conditions were excellent.  Today, we woke up to another cold day and around 1, we had a blast of snow.  Here is a picture looking off our porch across the street of the sky after the dark gloomy snowy sky.  Our tulips were just drooping from the wind and snow.

Mexico Mission Quilt and Boy Scout

April 11, 2008

I gave in and told my sister that this quilt was ready.  She will get it Sunday barring any airline problems my daughter may have.  The tee shirts came from her pastor.  His wife gave them to my sister for the quilt and it will be a surprise for his 70th birthday in May.  For the 2007 Mexico Mission, the teens played a prank on him.  They got his wife to tell them his size underwearand and purchased enough for the trip.  They washed, tie dyed and returned them to the wife who replaced his old ones with the “new tye dye” ones.  When they stopped at the first night’s hotel and he opened his luggage…   hmmm…  what a surprise!

My Pinwheel Pizzazz is nearly finished being hand bound.  It is queen size and I believe I will put it in a small local quilt show being held in two weeks.

I have spent the day working on sorting out my son’s Cub and Boy Scout stuff.  I am trying to get a time-line of what he did as well as scan all the pictures so my sister can create a memory album and we can do a slide show at his Eagle Court of Honor.  He still has two parts of his project and four Eagle required badges to complete.  Hopefully, by next September he’ll be ready and our Marine son will be able to be here for the ceremony.  Here he is at Butte Creek when he was 9 years old.

Tee Shirt Quilt

April 7, 2008

Today I finished putting together the center of a tee shirt quilt for my sister’s pastor.  I still have to add the sashing and the back will include the panel I have sewn with the shirt-backs.  My daughter and her husband will be meeting this sister Sunday on a layover in DC on a trip somewhere??  My goal is to have it totally finished so they can surprise her with it (and cookies).

Quilting Studio Tour

April 4, 2008

I frequent www.MQResource.comand someone suggested we all give studio tours.  Well, here is mine.  This is my “sewing area”.  It is the corner of my eating nook.  When things are too big, I just swing the machine onto the kitchen table.  The white cabinet has a project in two drawers and scraps in the third.  The baskets on top each have a project and one holds scraps also.

For most ironing, I work near my sink.  Since Daycare is my primary business, the cord is up.  OK, the bottle should be put away.  However, the coffee pot and iron are the only electric appliances on my counter!

This is my “design” area.  Most people have a wall, but why do I need one when I have floor space and…

a dining room table to stand on and take pictures from?

This is my “quilting studio” ~~ cement at it’s best.  Without looking out the window, I can tell if it is raining because it seeps through the corner and rolls towards the washing machine.  That is why the dehumidifier is to the left.  The floor used to be clear under the table, but I co-coordinate door prizes at the guild, so the prizes have a special storage spot now.

The end!

Baby Showers

April 4, 2008

I have two baby showers this weekend and one the following Saturday.  For gifts, I made receiving blankets (40″ x 40″) and small wash cloths.  I use the same wash cloths here for my daycare and love them.

The Pinwheel Pizzazz is quilted and the binding is machine sewn on and ready to hand-stitch from the back.
